Unveiling the Advantages and Considerations of Owning a Home Charging Station for Electric Cars

Electric cars have a feature that many people don’t even know about: They can be charged in two seconds – one second to plug in and one second to unplug. Because during the loading time, you can do many other things. An important prerequisite for the safe and fast charging of electric cars at home is a dedicated charging station. We explain what to consider when buying.

Having your very personal charging station has many benefits

In order to connect with the vehicle and guarantee secure charging, an electric vehicle charging station in India is needed. This basic requirement for electromobility can only be guaranteed by charging technology that has been professionally installed. Even if the emergency charging cable in the trunk is tempting: in the long run you should avoid charging an electric car at the socket. In many cases, neither the socket itself nor the electrical installation behind it is designed for such a permanent load. Both independent test institutes and automobile manufacturers, therefore, recommend charging at a charging station.

Having your own charging station offers another advantage that many users are not aware of: the higher the charging power, the better the efficiency. This is due to the fact that additional consumers are always active during a charging process, eg battery monitoring. The shorter the charging time, the lower the unnecessary power consumption. But the efficiency is also higher since chargers have less energy loss with higher charging power. A charging station can also have a financial impact over several years.

EV Charging Solutions in Private Sectors

The charging stations in the private sector are often also referred to as wall boxes since they are primarily installed on the wall. A wall box is usually compact and therefore takes up little space. The connection is made via the home network and enables the e-car to be charged in the private sphere. Charging stations in public spaces are often larger, although there are exceptions, for example in parking garages. When buying an e-car, a charging cable is often included, which is usually only intended for charging at power sockets. It is only rarely used at wall boxes or public electric vehicle charging stations in India.

Why a Wallbox?

A wall box offers a high level of security and convenience. The maximum power that can be charged – or that may be charged – can be adjusted accordingly. Some charging stations have additional functions such as charging monitoring, electricity meter, WLAN, etc. Since most wall boxes already include a charging cable, you can imagine them like a petrol pump. This makes charging at home very simple and convenient. Just plug it in and off you go – Plug ‘n Play.

Requirements for a wall box

An important prerequisite for your own wall box is a suitable area with a power connection. EMC strongly recommends a licensed electrician for installation and connection. Before a corresponding model is purchased, an appointment should be made on-site with the electrician to discuss the circumstances. Among other things, it is checked whether the existing house connection is sufficient or whether an increase must be requested from the local energy supplier. Decisive for this is, among other things, the charging capacity of the e-car and other consumers in the house that put a greater load on the house connection.
